Last week, ABS Commercial had the amazing opportunity to host Atrevida Beer Co. from Colorado Springs and create a collaboration brew with our sister company, Raleigh Brewing, to mark the occasion. Atrevida, meaning a bold, daring, audacious woman, was founded by Jess and Rich Fierro in 2018.
Jess is their Head Brewer, who started homebrewing in 2008. She also formed the Colorado Springs Pink Boots Society chapter, whose goal is to assist, inspire and encourage women and non-binary individuals in the fermented/alcoholic beverage industry to advance their careers through education. Atrevida’s motto is “Diversity, it’s on tap!” and that motto is shown through their inclusive efforts and commitment to their culture.
Last November, the Fierro’s attended a drag performance at Club Q when a gunman opened fire on patrons. Rich, a retired Army Major, charged the assailant with assistance from others and was able to disarm him until help arrived. Atrevida was overwhelmed with the outreach of support they received following the incident. Their extraordinary resilience, endurance, and embodiment of love toward all has left a lasting impact on the craft beer industry as a whole.
Because we are brewers, ABS Commercial understands how important it is to support our breweries in the craft beer industry. It is important to be connected to the community and support one another, allowing everyone to grow and prosper.
“We started our Giveback Campaign in 2020 in the midst of the global pandemic. But whatever the situation or circumstance, our team wants to offer a helping hand with the day-to-day challenges of operating a brewery and spread the love in our industry. We look forward to being a valued vendor partner within the brewing industry for many years to come,” said Kristie Nystedt, President & CEO of ABS Commercial.
ABS Commercial is helping Atrevida Beer Co. expand from a homemade 5bbl brewing system to a state-of-the-art 10bbl, 2-vessel brewhouse to aid in growing their production. Our partners, Allied Boiler, Pro Refrigeration, RMS, and Alliance Hose have also stepped in to get them set up with burners, a glycol chiller, a grain mill, and hoses – for a full brewhouse setup. White Labs has donated yeast for the first batch brewed with the new system, and the ABS e-Commerce team has provided a yeast brink for increased yeast management. We are proud to be a part of this great industry and to help in any way we can.
“It’s been a long year; it’s been a crazy year. I want to thank the industry as a whole, who have just been incredible. We have a lot of exciting things going on moving forward and we are just so grateful,” said Jess Fierro.
Thank you Jess, Kassy, Taylor, Tasha, and Rich for making the trip to Raleigh. We were honored to meet and host this incredible team and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for them.
